I have already presented this technique in the body healing section as just one application to treat physical pain. Here you will learn that it can be applied to almost anything. The motto of EFT is: “Try it for anything!”, and this can be any kind of discomfort, be it physical, mental or emotional. They also say it doesn’t work for everything or everyone, but they encourage you to keep trying. You have nothing to lose from the attempt, just the negativity itself.
For each type of discomfort, the protocol is the same as outlined in EFT for physical problems. The first thing you need to do is give your discomfort a description, in terms of location in the body, colour, sensation, shape, texture, etc. You can choose one type of description, or 2, or more. You will find your own style of describing the aspects that appear. For example, an aspect can be like “Red Anger” or “Red Anger in the Chest”, or “Round Sadness”, or “Pulsating Green Anger”, or “Yellow Negative Thoughts in the Head”. There are infinite examples, and it could get very weird in description. It really doesn’t matter how weird the description can get, all that matters is that you have a description of your aspect of discomfort.
Once you have the description, ask yourself how intense the discomfort is so that you have a starting point of reference. So far, we have found the negative energy we want to release, we know what the intensity is and what the description is (the subconscious address of the negative energy of discomfort).
It is very important to become aware of the fact that these negative thoughts and feelings that keep appearing, come from the past and are activated by various stimuli (e.g.: people, situations, places, associations, etc.). They come from previous traumatic experiences, mostly from early childhood. They appear later in life and in other experiences because, through the law of attraction, we create similar negative experiences that activate the negative feelings stored in our subconscious that were born in early childhood.
The goal is to find the experience where the feeling of discomfort came from. For example, let’s take an intensity 8 “Red Sadness” discomfort aspect, which is in the heart.
First, an opening statement is made regarding the “Red Sadness in My Heart” aspect. The opening statement is said 3 times out loud, tapping the karate chop point. Then, the EFT sequence is done 3 times from top to bottom with the verbalization of the aspect to be released and then 3 times from top to bottom with deep breaths in the aspect to be released. It would look like this:
“Even though I have this red sadness in my heart,
I choose to let it all go.”
“Even though I have this red sadness in my heart,
I choose to let it all go.”
“Even though I have this red sadness in my heart,
I choose to let it all go.”
Tap 5-8 times on each point and say the discomfort aspect out loud.
1) Top of the head: “Red sadness from my heart”.
2) The beginning of the eyebrow: “I release the red Sadness from my heart”.
3) Side of the eye: “All the red sadness in my heart.”
4) Under the eyes: “I choose to release it now”.
5) Under the nose: “Red sadness from my heart”.
6) Under the mouth: “I release the red Sadness from my heart”.
7) Collar bone: “All the red sadness in my heart”.
8) Under the arm: “I choose to release it now”.
9) Point on the wrist: “Red sadness from my heart”.
10) First finger: “I release the red Sadness from my heart”.
11) Second finger: “All the red sadness in my heart”.
12) Third finger: “I choose to release it now”.
13) Fourth finger: “Red sadness from my heart”.
14) Fifth finger: “I release the red Sadness from my heart”.
15) Karate chop point: “All the red sadness in my heart”.
Perform the EFT sequence 3 times from top to bottom verbalizing the aspect of discomfort.
Next, perform the EFT sequence 3 times with deep breaths into the discomfort aspect.
Tap 5-8 times on each point and take a deep breath, inhale deeply into the feeling of discomfort and then exhale completely the feeling of discomfort.
1) Top of the head: Inhale deeply into “Red sadness in my heart”.
2) The beginning of the eyebrow: “I completely exhale “The red sadness in my heart”.
3) Side of the eye: “I breathe deeply into the ‘Red sadness in my heart.’
4) Under the eyes: “I completely exhale “Red sadness from my heart”.
5) Under the nose: “I take a deep breath in “The red sadness in my heart”.
6) Under the mouth: “I completely exhale “Red sadness from my heart”.
7) Collar bone: “I breathe deeply into the “Red sadness in my heart”.
8) Under the arm: “I completely exhale “Red sadness from my heart”.
9) Point on the wrist:” Inhale deeply into the “Red sadness in my heart”.
10) First finger: “I completely exhale “Red sadness in my heart”.
11) Second finger: “I breathe deeply into “Red sadness from the heart my”.
12) Third finger:” I exhale completely “The red sadness in my heart”.
13) Fourth finger: “I breathe deeply into the ‘Red sadness in my heart.’
14) Fifth finger: “I completely exhale the “red sadness in my heart”.
15) Point of Karate chop: “I breathe deeply into the “Red sadness in my heart”.
After you finish the 6 EFT sequences, you will analyse the discomfort aspect again and see what changes have taken place. It can change the intensity, place, colour or feel of the aspect.
Usually, the intensity of the aspect should be reduced, or another aspect may appear. Let’s say from an intensity of 8, it went down to a 4. If it was physical pain, we would do several rounds of EFT until the pain was gone. One EFT round means 6 EFT sequences. In the case of negative emotions or thoughts, we are not interested in releasing all the energy at first. We are interested in diminishing the appearance and then finding out where it comes from. We have to find the root of it.
One can think of this aspect of sadness as a branch from the tree of sadness that lies within. The tree of sadness is formed from all the experiences where you have felt sadness in your life. Throughout your life, you may have had many sad experiences with different people or places. Our objective is to find the deep feelings of sadness and release them. All basic negative feelings come from the early family environment at home. If we only release the sad feelings of the present time (the branches) and do not address the sad feelings of the past (the roots), we will attract more sad experiences and grow more branches of sadness. That’s why it’s so important to find out where the negative energy (in our example, sadness) is coming from.
You could try to work on yourself after finding the past experience where the sadness comes from, but only if you are a skilled practitioner or have a native talent for healing. I recommend that if you are unable to work with yourself, find an EFT Practitioner to work with you, or go and take an EFT course and become an EFT Practitioner. The practitioner will be able to guide you very easily and quickly to release the negative energy from the system and find more hidden negative feelings or experiences. If you work on yourself without knowing what you are doing, you could make yourself worse. My advice is to always seek professional help. In this way, you will have guaranteed results.
The simplest ways, which I have learned, to find past experiences, where the negative energy comes from, are as follows:
– Ask yourself (if you work for yourself), or ask the person you work with, about the discomfort, if you/he/she can remember the last time you felt this type of discomfort very intensely. Usually, an experience will surface very quickly.
– If, in some cases, you/he/she cannot remember an experience, try another approach. You focus on the energy, visualize where it is in the body, look at the colour, shape and begin to breathe deeply into it. While focusing on it, ask it (as you would ask a person) “Where are you from? Could you show me a picture of an experience you come from?”. Wait for a reply and give thanks.
– If an experience is still not found, the next thing to do is to ask the subconscious if there is any blockage in finding the experience. You ask the person in discomfort to ask their subconscious if there is a block that is stopping the memory from remembering. Usually, a blockage will show up and then you address the blockage. Apply as many EFT sequences as needed until the blockage is released. Then you ask the energy again if it could show you an experience where it came from.
– If experience is still not found, we use our last solution, SLOW EFT. It works by saying a belief or emotional state (in our case: “I feel sadness in my heart”) and making 1 opening statement (“Even though I feel sadness in my Heart/ I choose to release it now”). Then, for 2-3 minutes, the points of a meridian are tapped while vocally saying the negative belief or state of discomfort. This will certainly bring up an experience of sadness.
Now, we’ve found some previous experience to work on. Most of the time the person in discomfort will already have an experience in mind to work on. So far, I’ve presented what you need to do to find an experience to work on, starting from the feeling of discomfort. The technique is called Follow the Energy. In EFT, you always work with what you receive, and something will always present itself to work on. Either it’s just a negative starting feeling, or you directly get a super negative memory. Finding all the different aspects from memory and tapping on the points and breathing deeply is how to do a Successful EFT session.
The past experience where the discomfort energy comes from (in our example sadness) can be recent, or from very early childhood, or somewhere in between. The objective is to arrive as early as possible. In early childhood are the roots of all our physical, mental and emotional problems. If a recent experience has been shown to us by the subconscious, it is because we need to work there first to do the necessary healing. Your subconscious mind will always give you the right energy/experience to work on. Always, trust what your subconscious level gives you.
Once an experience is found to work on, Classic EFT uses the Movie Technique. It involves treating the experience like a movie from the past. Our objective is to unload all the negative feelings from it, one by one.
First, we give the film a name, in which the basic belief, the theme, is presented. Take, for example, an experience where your mother made you sad. Then we could call the movie “Mother Always Makes Me Sad.” Your subconscious mind will always give you the right name for the movie. Once you have the name of the movie, you ask the person/client to say it 3 times and tell you how they feel while saying the name of the movie. Certainly, a feeling of discomfort (in this case, certainly sadness) will be felt. Now you’re working with classic EFT, tapping and breathing all the feeling out.
After releasing the energy around the name of the movie, we ask the client to tell us the movie, sequence by sequence. The client would start with the movie place, its location, the people in the movie and their location. After you get the starting point of the movie, ask the client to start telling you what is happening in the movie and to stop when they feel negative emotions.
Let’s say in our example you’re in your room playing, or watching TV, or whatever, and after a few minutes your mother comes into your room in a rage and starts yelling at you for not cleaning the dishes and the table after you have eaten. This moment gives you an intensity 10 Blue Sadness feeling in your Chest. Now, you stop the client from telling you the movie action and start working on the found aspect. You tap on it, the client vocalizes the aspect, then breathes deeply into it and concentrates on releasing the aspect of discomfort.
Once you have released all of the first aspect of the movie (blue sadness in the chest), you ask the client to continue narrating the movie until they reach another significant moment in the experience where negative feelings arise. For example: after a few minutes of her yelling at you, mom comes and slaps you in the face, causing you to feel Fear and Rage in your Heart of intensity 10. Now, stop the movie again and work on the negative feelings presented until they are reduced to 0.
That way you go through the whole movie and find and release all the negative feelings from it. After you’ve finished the whole movie, you ask the client to start narrating the movie again, so you can see if anything was overlooked. If something else comes up, tap and breathe. The main goal is to discharge every bit of negative energy from the experience.
After you and your client are sure that the experience has been cleared, and if you have more time and/or the client is ready for it, you can ask them if they can recall an earlier experience in which they felt sadness. So far, we have only worked on one experience where sadness is the primary feeling, but there are certainly more experiences of sadness to be addressed, and those in early childhood memories are key. We have to work through all the experiences that the subconscious gives us, until we reach childhood.
This film technique is the classic EFT way of working through your issues, but you will find that the Matrix Reimprinting application makes it easier and faster to work with past experiences. Matrix Reimprinting accelerates subconscious level healing. I never use the Movie Technique from Classic EFT anymore, because the Play Technique from Matrix Reimprinting is much easier and faster in releasing trapped emotions and experiences. I have presented the Movie Technique for informational purposes and because you could do this on your own if you have a gift for healing. That being said, I also recommend that you find a professional who can work on you properly. You can work with yourself if you really need the negative energy release, and you have no one to work with you.
Classic EFT is amazing for releasing phobias and fears. It works for almost anything you can think of. A fear or phobia can be described as an unpleasant reaction to your environment, or rather, to a certain aspect of your environment. These can be animals and/or places. The addressing protocol of each type of unpleasant external stimuli is the same.
Take, for example, the fear of heights. I have worked with more than 30 people on this fear and it has worked very well. You will see how easy it is, and if you use it on someone, you will find the look on their face very funny once they realize they are no longer afraid of heights.
The best place to do this is on top of a balcony or somewhere high up where they can feel their fear. You can also do it anywhere and ask them to close their eyes and imagine they are at heights where they would be afraid to be. The brain cannot distinguish between what is real and what is imaginary. It activates the same neural responses, and in the body you will feel the same unpleasant reactions. I have most often applied this EFT technique with people on balconies or high stairs.
Suppose we have a balcony, where we will use this technique to release the fear of heights. The first thing I would do is lean as far as I can over the balcony. I keep my feet on the ground of the balcony, my hands hold the rail. Then, gradually, I lean over the balcony until my chest almost reaches the outside of the balcony.
I show this to the person with a fear of heights and then ask them to do exactly what I did, very slowly, and stop when the fear of heights starts. After he begins to lean, at some point he will feel the fear of heights manifesting in some kind of bodily symptom. It can be dizziness, tension, chills, shaking, heart palpitations, etc.
This is the first tree I find in the forest of fear of heights. Now, we apply the necessary EFT sequences until the first aspect is gone.
Then we look for the second tree. We ask him to lean in again and stop when more unpleasant feelings arise. We will notice that this time, he/she will be able to bend more. At some point, more feelings will arise. Then tap and breathe. Work this way until he/she can bend down as far as you. All you have to do is keep tapping until the fear is all released. Very simple, right?
This live approach can be applied to any type of fear or phobia, but in most cases, it works with closed eyes and visualization. If you choose to work on a fear of small places, you will not put that someone in a small place and do the work. You just ask him to visualize a small place or remember the last time or the most traumatic time he was in a small place.
With animal phobias it is very simple to work on. You just ask him to imagine the animal or show him a picture of that animal. Look for all aspects of discomfort coming from the animal and tap and breathe.
All fears and phobias come from early experiences. Either they had a direct traumatic experience with an animal or place, or they copied the fear or phobia from family or relatives. If you are small and your mother tells you her fears, you will surely get them too.
When I was little, my mother told me that one time she was eating fish and accidentally swallowed a fish bone that got stuck in her throat. She had to be taken to the hospital’s emergency department to have the bone removed. This produced in my mind a fear of eating fish. I was afraid that if I eat fish, the same thing will happen to me. From that moment on, I really didn’t like fish at all. I didn’t like the taste of it, the smell of it, the look of it, or anything else to do with fish.
This is a very funny situation, considering that my childhood nickname until now is FISH. :)))
A few years ago, when I started my healing journey, I started to become aware of all these induced fears that we receive from our parents. I was able to let go of this fear and gradually started eating fish and enjoying it. Now that I have learned how healthy and nutritious fish is, a wonderful food, it has become one of my favourite foods.
Basically, there are 2 primary emotions in the human experience: Fear and Love. All society’s problems come from fear. By working on letting go of the fear of the past, we free ourselves and make room for love to become our daily fuel in life. EFT is one of the healing tools that can help you achieve this.
Used correctly, Classic EFT can get you and others out of a lot of trouble. The basic recipe is simple, find what the present discomfort is and tap and breathe. It is very important to keep tapping, one round (6 EFT sequences) takes very little time. If you sometimes feel like it’s not doing anything, change the descriptions and keep tapping.
Incorporating EFT into your daily practice will make a big difference in your life. EFT is an internal energetic cleansing tool. In this way, you clean your internal house of things that don’t belong to you. We come into this world as divine beings of love and light and all the negative energy we take in comes from the environment. It’s not who we really are. EFT will clear your thoughts and emotions and move you from a troubled and depressed life to a happy life.
Whenever and wherever you feel uncomfortable, you can use this wonderful technique, easy and fast, and you can achieve satisfactory or impressive results. It may not work the same way all the time, or the same way for everything, but it will certainly help you in life. EFT is an ACE (of the Heart) under your sleeve, which can help you in difficult times and which can be used to help others around you.
I hope that everyone learns and uses this technique for their own good and that of others. In this way, the mood and health of our society will increase.
There are many applications of Classic EFT, but the most powerful and easiest, at least from my point of view, is the Matrix Reimprinting technique.
